Your own domain protects your branding

A Ubivox account is given a domain automatically, something like your-organisation.clients.ubivox.com. When a recipient clicks a link in your newsletter, we send them past our system so the click can be recorded for your statistics — which means the links in your newsletter point at that domain.

So our name appears in your emails. We had wanted to change that for a long time, so customers could choose exactly the domain they use in their own mail.

Why it was not straightforward

The obstacle was encryption. All traffic between our systems and our users’ runs over SSL/HTTPS, and that makes it technically harder to let customers pick a domain freely: every domain needs its own certificate.

We solved it by issuing a certificate on behalf of every customer who attaches their own domain to their account. That happens automatically through Let’s Encrypt, which is why we can offer the feature to every customer at no cost.

It also opens the door to DMARC alignment

If you want DMARC alignment in your email, your own domain makes it possible. Sending DMARC-aligned mail lowers the risk of someone successfully impersonating you in a phishing attempt — and it is increasingly what the large receivers expect from a sender.
